POLICY AND PROCEDURE FOR INTAKE OF KENYAN STUDENTS
  • Applications from all Kenyans will be considered provided they meet the minimum entry requirements.
  • All districts should be fairly represented provided that suitable applicants from each district are available.
  • Intake will be on basis of merit which will be determined objectively according to established criteria.
  • Intake will take into account the interest of maintaining the College’s standing internationally and maintenance of high standards in the hotel and tourism industry in Kenya.
The May and October intakes are advertised early January and early April respectively. Deadlines for submitting applications are specified in the advertisement and are normally four weeks after appearance of the advertisements. The advertisements specify the minimum entry requirements for each course. They also bring to notice that applicants not meeting the minimum requirements are not acknowledged.

Interview and testing panels are made up of representatives from the industry, as nominated by their respective trade associations, i.e  Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and Caterers (KAHC), Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) and Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO) and College officials. The interviews are normally conducted at Keya Utalii College, Nairobi.
Any candidate who fails the oral interview or the written test or both is automatically disqualified. All other candidates are ranked by province and district on basis of their total score in the written test and oral interview.
Subject to the number of vacancies in each course, the best candidates in rank from different districts are pre-selected, taking into account a reasonable distribution within the established provincial distribution quota.
