Introduction

Housekeeping and Laundry has been the back bone of any hospitality industry.  Its importance cannot be over emphasized as it plays a key role in determining the success or failure of any hospitality organization.  Provision of a clean, safe, secure, attractive and comfortable environment to the guests and employees is of paramount importance in meeting today’s customer demands.

Housekeeping contributes as a major revenue earner in most accommodation properties and has continued to evolve in its trends.

HOUSEKEEPING AND LAUNDRY COURSE:

1½ year full time course

Entry Requirements

3rd Division at ‘O’ level or its equivalent with good credits in English language, and a pass in mathematics.

Kenya Secondary Certificate of Education minimum aggregate obtained C- (minus) with English language C- (minus).

International Candidates (GCE, IGCE, IB and other internationally recognized examinations) with a secondary school certificate with a pass in English, Candidates must be fluent in both written and spoken English.

Course Content

This Two - year course programme is designed to prepare students who wish to enter into a management career in the hospitality industry.

The course seeks to provide an overview of the importance of housekeeping and laundry operations and management and the role it plays in meeting the evolving demands of today’s customer. You will develop skills in providing services to guests and the knowledge and practice of housekeeping and laundry operations.

house keeping imageThe course integrates the theoretical lessons with the practical training conducted in the application hotel which is a training laboratory. The course structure includes special courses such as environmental studies, foreign languages, information technology, property management, business communication, hotel and catering law, social aspects of tourism, touristic geography, Leisure studies and first aid.

In addition to these special studies, the course emphasizes on Key strategic courses such as housekeeping and laundry management which provide topics such as finance, purchasing, problem solving and control operations. 

The course will provide you with a three-month internship opportunity in any hospitality industry locally, nationally, regionally or internationally to obtain experience in the tourism industry.

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods are used in this programme, they include work based assignments that can either be individual or group work, progress tests, terminal tests, project work, case study presentations, written and practical examinations.

Career Opportunities

There are a range of careers open from this course in a variety of areas such as hotels, institutions, restaurants, hospitals, entertainment and leisure properties, airlines, members clubs, laundry plants and shops, etc.
