Kenya Utalii College is a government owned hotel and tourism training institution established in 1973.. Since its inception, the college has gained a wealth of experience in training for the tourism industry, both in Kenya and in the African region as a whole.

The Academic division, is headed by the Director of Studies, assisted by the Deputy Director of Studies. Under the Academic Division, there are 14 departments with a workforce of 85 permanent staff, 9 part-time lecturers and 1 part-time expatriate lecturer.

The College offers the following eight full time courses:

Hotel Management

Travel Operations

Tour Guiding and Administration

Front Office

Food Production

Food and Beverage Service (Basic and Advanced)

Housekeeping and Laundry

The college has endeavored to maintain high academic standards of international level, with some its Programmes being accredited by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Tourism Education Quality (TEDQUAL) Themis Foundation.
academic imageThis has earned the college the prestigious UNWTO Education and Science Council membership. Kenya Utalii College has also been certified as one of the Centers of Excellence in Hospitality and Tourism training in East Africa region and it is in the process of seeking ISO Certification.
This is in line with its vision To be the world’s leading centre of excellence in hospitality training and mission To develop a highly qualified human resource base for the hospitality industry through training, research and consultancy.
To keep abreast with the ever changing needs of the industry, the college through the Kenya Utalii College – Tourism Industry Liaison Committee has established partnership with the industry , in its training activities. In addition to the full time courses, the College conducts In-Service courses for hospitality industry employees.  On average the College trains 1,200 industry employees per year in the Refresher Courses and 120 for the Management Development Programmes.

Internship Programme

It is the College's academic policy that all students undergo internship before they graduate.  The industrial attachment, ranging from 6 weeks to 6 months, is undertaken mainly in the hotels lodges, travel and tour establishments  in the country or abroad , depending on the various courses.

Industry Acceptance of College graduates

Kenya Utalii College has been for a long time been the main source of trained manpower for the tourism industry. The College's graduates are readily accepted into the industry due to their hands on training. The college also provides human resources for the international labor market and many alumni are working all over the world in different capacities.
